"The Space Bend. Seems like they'll shove anything into it these days. TV, probes - and now people. Doctor Zeph Boing, what's that about?"

Camera zooms out to show both Gidget and Dr. Boing sitting together.

Dr. Zeph Boing

"If we were to travel the distance it spans by conventional means, it'd take several lifetimes. The Bend is an opportunity to cover that distance in seconds - to hit fast-forward on becoming a space-faring civilization. We simply can't pass it up."

Gidget

"How did you land on these five so-called Bendonauts?"

Dr. Zeph Boing

"We thought it would be best if the Bendonauts were selected at random."

Gidget

"But surely there are risks?"

Dr. Zeph Boing

"The onboard wiring gets a bit kooky, but the hulls retain integrity."

Gidget

"Seems to me like your onboard wiring would have to be a little kooky to agree to this trip."

Dr. Zeph Boing

"They don't just get to go into the Bend, they get to go on TV too."

Gidget

"And so do you.

Doctor Boing, thanks for making Small Talk."

The lights on the TV set go out before the screen fades to black.
