Rendsword is a game developed by Powerdive Games.
Plot
A mighty sword, called the Rendsword, said to cut words themselves, lies waiting for a suitable master. To claim it, you must complete a trial where combat is decided by words!
Gameplay
At the beginning of Rendsword, you choose a first and last name from lists of options. The letters in your name become a deck of cards, each card showing a letter and its point value.
During each battle round, you make words using letter cards from your hand and other letter cards that represent enemies. The words you play injure enemies based on the point values of the strike (attack) cards you use.
Cards
After each round, you choose a new letter card to add to your deck from five options (the letters of a random word.) Most cards, especially early on, will appear as "Strike" cards, however other kinds of card appear more frequently as a run goes on. The types of card are as follows:
| Name | Effect |
|---|---|
| Striking | Deals the indicated amount of damage to targets. |
| Doubling | Doubles the power of all other cards for the word this is played in. Removed from battle once played. |
| Echoing Strike | Deals the indicated amount of damage to targets, then returns to your hand as a basic strike card. |
| Healing | Heals for the indicated amount of health. Does not require a target, but is removed from battle once played. |
| Disorienting | Stuns all targeted foes for a turn. Removed from battle once played. |
| Discarding | Discards all remaining cards in your hand, forcing enemies to reroll letters. Removed from battle once played. |
| Armoring | Grants the indicated amount of armor. Removed from battle once played. Each time you would take damage, you prevent damage equal to your current armor. You lose 1 armor at turn start. |
| Poisoning | Inflicts the indicated amount of poison. Removed from the battle once played. At the end of a foe's turn, it takes nonlethal damage equal to its current poison, then loses 1 poison. |
Relics
Certain rounds will also allow you to pick a relic from among the game's 40 relics. Relics add passive effects that are always active. A list of relics and their functions can be found at Rendsword/Relics
